Located in the Sawatch Range of central Colorado, Mt. Harvard stands as the highest peak of the Collegiate Peaks at an impressive elevation of 14,421 feet. This ranks it as the fourth highest summit in the contiguous United States, making it a prominent destination for avid mountaineers. Named after the prestigious Harvard University in 1869 by the first Harvard Mining School class, the mountain is part of a unique grouping of peaks named after famous universities, which also includes Mt. Yale and Mt. Princeton. Its prominence and challenging routes attract ambitious hikers who are rewarded with spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding wilderness.
On your journey to conquer Mt. Harvard, you'll encounter diverse terrain that includes dense forests, alpine meadows, and rugged boulder fields, providing both a physical and mental challenge. The mountain's relatively remote location within the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness Area offers a sense of solitude not found on some of the more trafficked 14ers in Colorado. Wildlife enthusiasts may be lucky enough to spot a marmot or mountain goat while ascending the rugged trails. The adventure up Mt. Harvard not only tests your hiking skills but also immerses you in the serene beauty and unique charm of Colorado's high country.
